Vocabulary 2

1. Obesity- the condition of being overweight
Obesity plays a big role in an unhealthy life.
2. Accumulate- gather together or acquire an increasing number or quantity of.
The more things you buy, the more debt you accumulate.
3. Mass- large body of matter with no definite shape
If you are overweight, then you have a lot of mass.
4. Disease- a disorder of structure or function in a human, animal, or plant.
Cancer is a bad disease.
5. Diet- the kinds of food that a person, animal, or community habitually eats.
To stay healthy you must have a good diet.
6. Prevalence- the factor condition of being widespread.
The prevalence of obesity in adults may likely carry down to their children.
7. Stigma- a mark of disgrace associated with a particular circumstance, person, or quality.
Stigma attached to mental illness.
8. Prevent(able)- keep from happening or arising.
To prevent becoming overweight, you should exercise on a daily basis.
9. Adolescent- the process of developing from a child into an adult.
Adolescent children need to exercise everyday in order to stay healthy.
10. Cardiovascular- of or relating to the heart and blood vessels.
If you work your cardiovascular system, you will be much more healthier.
11. Excessive- more than is necessary, normal, or desirable.
Excessive weight can be caused by junk food.
12. Mechanism- a system of parts working together in a machine.
If the mechanism isn't working, then you will lack production.
13. Sedentary- tending to spend much time seated.
If you are sedentary while playing video games then you won't get any exercise.
14. Predispose- make someone liable or inclined to a specified attitude, action, or condition.
If you don't get exercise you may predispose to becoming fat.
15. Syndrome- a condition characterized by a set of associated symptoms.
When an individual has a syndrome, the signs are shown at birth.
