Banksy's Wall and Piece

Wall and Piece was a good book for being made by a graffiti artist.  Banksy is a very well-known graffiti artist with a lot of famous pieces.  This book has a lot of pictures put together of his pieces that he has done in the past with captions next to them.  A lot of his art work seems like vandalism but almost every single one of his pieces has valuable meaning and information behind it.  This book was a great way to get his point of graffiti across to the reader.  This book is solely about Banksy and the meanings behind all of his best pieces of graffiti.
Banksy made this book to show reason behind all of his graffiti.  He points out a lot of flaws in the government and talks about what he feels is right.  He feels as if his graffiti is a form of advertisement/propaganda.  It's a way of expressing his thoughts to the people through art on the streets.  There are many points that he makes through his graffiti to help open the eyes of people who don't realize some things about the government.  Not only does he point out some blind spots that the government has but he also points out some ways that people see things in life and he tries to shed some light on them.
This book was recommended to me by Dr. Preston because he knows that one of my passions is street art and that's what this book is all about.  I don't really like to read books but this book is very different from all other books.  This book appeals to me in a special way because I agree with everything that Banksy does.  When I started reading the book, I liked it right away because it has a lot of personalities to it.  This book is perfect for anyone that is into street art.  It is also good for people who want to learn more about street art or more about Banksy and why he does what he does.
This book has a lot of captions next to pictures that show information and reasons for why he did certain art pieces.  I believe that Banksy is a genius in the art industry.  He reaches out to people in so many different ways and sees life completely different from the average person.  I have learned from this book that his attitude about street art is to use propaganda to reach out to people and open people's eyes.
No one really knows who Banksy is or what he looks like.  He is anonymous to the media and probably won't ever reveal who he is.  It could be more than one person but no one will ever know for sure.  He/they are people that believe that they are heroes in their own way.  In a fictional book, they would be heroes who help people to open their eyes and see the world differently and more clear.  If I were to put Banksy into a fictional book, he would be talked about using direct characterization.  This book is all about him and the work that he does.
Banksy is worth talking about because he is so well known and his artwork is worth a lot of money.  In this book, Banksy talks about himself and gives his opinions on certain topics.  He talks about certain stories of situations that he was put in while trying to do his work and that would be an example of indirect characterization.  He talks about funny things that he has pulled and shares an email that was written to him by someone who was angry with him for doing something.  The person who wrote the email was angry and the reader can understand why because Banksy shares why the person wrote him that email.  Banksy is a static protagonist because he remains the same.  He has different personalities in his opinions but he always remains loyal to his artwork and does not change the fact that he shares his opinions openly with the public.  This book brings people to realization of who Banksy really is even though we don't know what he looks like.  After reading this book, it's as if I know who Banksy is because he shares his ideas in this book just like a friend would.
This book about Banksy was written in a journalistic style.  Everything that he talked about was based on a true story or true facts.  Most of this book felt like Banksy was interviewing himself and sharing a lot of information about himself to the reader.  While the pictures tell their own story by showing information about the place and giving an idea of what it was like to be there, Banksy talks about the action that happened their in the captions.  The pictures show great detail of the place and the artwork.  Banksy illustrates the picture even more by describing what happened at the scene.  His attitude in this book is all understood in the captions written next to the pictures of his artwork.  He shows a lot of passion in what he does and talks about his passion and opinions in the captions.
There are a few things from this book that I will remember for a long time and use to my advantage.  Some of his artwork used in the zoo opened my eyes about how sad it really is that these animals are trapped.  These animals really have no choice or freedom.  Another idea that I thought was pretty cool was how gullible people are.  He spray painted signs that said designated graffiti areas that people believed were real.  People are so used to signs made by the government that if you make one that looks like a sign that is made by the government then people will take it seriously.  This book has a lot of interesting and relatable opinions.  I recommend that anyone who is interested in street art or Banksy's artwork to read this book.  You will not regret it.
